Short film analysis

Curfew: Opening with a panning shot up towards the telephone majority of the setting is in low-key lighting however it has a red undertone towards it with the flooring and the phone being red this appears to be a common colour as we see a bloody hand emerge and pick up the phone cutting to extreme close up shots of a blood covered razor, cigarette, to eventually a bird eye view of the main character "Richie". As the colour red has a common appearance in the short film it means that it holds importance or it creates the setting and the aura of the scene, the  colour red is commonly used to be associated with: Love, Lust and also Danger, the audience is left in the dark until the bloody hand appears and we see Richie in the bath and it appears that he is trying to end his life. Him being on the phone with his sister almost acts as a lifeline as she gives him a reason to live and do something being her daughter. When Richie and Sophia meet they appear to hold the same facial ex

Trainspotting

How does the aesthetic quality of Trainspotting depict ideological issues of Youth and Addiction? Trainspotting shows addiction (Heroin addiction) in a way that could terrify the Youth watching the film, as it is not glamourized at all, it gives a realistic representation of what it takes and what it is like to be a Heroin addict.  The Opening scene is the first idea of heroin usage and how it makes the characters feel, With Renton's, our main character, opening monologue he lists all the ideological things that people his age would choose and how they would life "Choose life, choose a job, choose a career...". At the ending of this monologue he ends it with "I chose not to choose life, I chose something else, and the reasons there are no reasons. Who needs reason when you got heroin", It shows in the younger generation during the 90's they decide to choose using drugs and have that take over their life then trying to make a success or a career for themsel

Blade runner & The Lady from Shanghai Comparison

'The director is always the most important influence of the film', Compare how far your two chosen films support this statement. Blade runner is classified as a film noir, consisting of its dark, shadowy and depressive colour scheme and lighting aesthetic, within its elements throughout the film. Deckard is the most noticeable of the 19 40's influences, attired in earthly toned suits with an emotionally detached and anti authoritarian disposition. The original text for the film was inspired by "Do androids dream of electric sheep" which was composed in the 1960's by Philip Dick, the appropriation was composed in 1982 and holds elements of different themes such as "Cyber Punk" with its futuristic theme and style throughout the film. With Ridley Scott, as an auteur he has a key elements that are seen throughout his film and are strongly shown in Blade runner and the main style is having a strong female as the lead of his film and in film noir it is

La La Land

Image
Discuss how important cinematography is in establishing strong responses from spectators to a key character in ' La La Land' - Must refer to a scene The scene opens up with Sebastian driving up towards Mia's family home to take her to the audition, this is shown through a wide shot (establishing shot) this allows the audience to identify the area and we also see a strong difference between audience, this means the audience would need to be more active so they are able to identify difference in setting and atmosphere comparing on being in the city compared to Mia's home town. With the establishing shot we are able to notice the orange and walk colour palette of Mia's home town, this gives a warm and calming kind of feeling and having the comfort of being somewhere, the audience, especially me would identify with this because it can show Mia enjoys the comfort of her own natural home and is family orientated by choosing to go back with her parents and spend time w

Winter's Bone

Image
How far does "Winter's Bone" rely upon an understanding of its social context? An example of Winter's Bone social context would be strongly seen when Ree goes to visit Teardrop while looking for her dad. For Winter's Bone the social context is that they live in a society where the men are in charge and the women have to follow what they say, this is the society they are forced to live in and its very patriarchal and controlled. For Ree this is different as she lives in a female based how due towards the absence of her father so she has to be the controlling one and is the main support of the family. As she enters the house she needs to ask permission to come in, the man of the house is the one that needs to confirm wether the women can come in. This is the social reality that the women have to face in this way of living, the women are objectified and have to do domestic chores around the house while the men work and come home and do nothing, the women are bosse

My Film Evaluation

While making this short film there was quite a few ups and downs with; working together, the planning and I think just the whole execution and process of the film was difficult as a whole, but we managed to pull through and make this work. All three of us didn't know each other and what our strengths were when going into this for the first time, but we where able to adapt and be able to use each other's ideas effectively. We came up with the idea straight away and was able to figure out what did and didn't work and support each other's ideas, we supported and adapted situations to how we could make it work and exchanged knowledge such as; working a camera, editing, the relation to the mise-en-scene and to how we want the film, scenes to look and the overall outcome. I think when we started we where all very excited and fired up and being all "This is going to be so easy" but it wasn't, we had to think about; Costumes, concept, costumes, the meaning and
